she's not a girl who misses much

Lena, 19, San Franciscan born and raised.

Linguistics major and theatre minor at UCSD; second year undergrad!

I'll post whatever tickles my fancy, and I also tend to have rambling conversations with myself in the tags, so those are always fun to catch.

Come get to know a little about me!

So Smooth Criminal is a song about a man doing violence to a woman In this performance Sebastian essentially becomes the ‘smooth criminal’ himself while Santana becomes Annie However instead of allowing the smooth criminal to dominate her this Annie fights back She decries him and matches him This is an empowerment song in Naya and Santana’s hands This is about a woman who won’t allow a predatory man to dominate her As an aside: the Spanish name Santana translates to Saint Anne in English So Santana is literally Annie The more you know Fuck yeah Santana! This is a Smooth Criminal obsession blog

I have so many thoughts about this song. I don’t think Santana is in control here at all.
But she is powerful.

VALUABLE information in her name.  Thank you.  And Santana, while powerful, seems fucking terrified in this piece to me.  She hides it well, does what she needs to do, and acquits herself far better than even she expected of herself.  But the scene works because she’s scared.

…Kurt is the only one allowed to defeat Sebastian.  Kurt, the very first victim to sexual assault that we see in the show, is the only one who can beat the boy who terrifies both Santana and Blaine, in both sexual agency and aggression.
I have so many more thoughts on this, but this is a start.
(also, now I want Blaine to sing Lady Gaga’s “Monster” about Sebastian.)

This analysis is beautiful. I don’t think that’s what they intended, because they really don’t put that amount or depth...
